Who's downrange?

and no.. this is not the start of a "who's on first" joke*

Troops in Afghanistan...

Australia... 1,455 troops on the ground
USA......     78,430 troops on the ground.

Well I'm kind of embarrassed.... surely if all our nations support the concept of assisting Afghanistan's population to develop into a more Democratic type society (where woman are valued more than camels; and love of country can be as prevalent as "duty to the clan")... then why arent' the rest of our countries pulling more of the load?

The whole "it's unpopular with the voters" crap just has to stop.  YES! War is unpopular - but how about the idea of "get in - get it done - make the world safer for our children and our children's children?"  [yes yes.. Pax has *often* been accused of having a simplistic view of world politics - she also believes in the maxim of "many hands make light work".  Please direct all vitriol in the comments box..]
and to leave you laughing (?) - *THIS* is Who's on first

Pax is excited!!! Cory is home safe :)

News in from Christine Hofmann-Bourque, the amazing and wonderful organiser of the "Adopt a member of the 108th Military Police Company (Airborne)" program that I was involved in for a year.

All the troops are now home and safe.   See HERE for all the news.

Welcome home Cory - Stay safe now :)

Pax Resurfaces....

Ugh... sorry, it's been a busy couple of weeks since I last posted.

I am still a little behind on my Milsupport to adoptee's but did manage to organise small packages to two of the guys (just a book for one, and a funny item for the other).  I'm waiting on my next payday to send off something fun to my newest chap (I still have no idea of his likes/dislikes so maybe a sweetie pack or OHHHH I KNOW *Vegemite!!! If it's in stock that is)

And I have a couple of people from the Cup of Joe program to write back to too (channeling fun goofy Pax is becoming easier... now if only I can work out "witty and charming" heh heh heh)
Ohh!  And I have it on the Best of Authorities that Green Bean Coffee shops downrange DO sell Muffins and also killer chocolate cake [thank you Dan & Hooby for the intel!]

Oh... and due to having to do a full reinstall of Windows 7 I have lost a few email addresses. So if you know that I owe you an email please drop me a note (along the lines of "*cough*  *cough* contact me *cough*" will do the trick :D)

Things here at home are sorting themselves out.  My Parents were over to visit yesterday - both for Mum's birthday Lunch that I was organising for her; but also to help me with steam cleaning the carpets (with the removal of some furniture and the rearranging of the remainder the carpets were looking pretty bleh).
I Love my parents!  Dad even fixed the leaky tap for me (I *had* planned to get it done myself but he looked hurt at the thought I didn't need his expertise. Who am I to say no when it's Dad-Improved handiwork!)

Tomorrow - my BFF will be over to help me break a wardrobe (as in... pulling it apart into it's component pieces so it can either be recycled by friends or carted away to the Tip**. She's bringing "THE BIG HAMMER" so I'm sure the neighbours will freak out by the time we are done *giggles manically*)

And to leave you with something funny... here's some Top Gear Versus a British Army Tank

*Pax... broadening the horizons and taste buds of poor unsuspecting Americans for over two years now

**that's Rubbish Tip/Dump to the Aussie and Brits... and I have no idea what the USAian's call theirs

Well Casa de Paxford is somewhat smaller now.  Just myself and the cat.

The Separation of Mr B & I was as amicable as these things get I guess. He's moving on with his life and I am beginning to pick up the pieces of mine.  I guess in the long run this has been inevitable for a while - just always a shock to the system to discover that love has died.

With all the moving out of things, changing of locks, reorganising of furniture, and reassuring the cat that I'm not leaving her too, I am very behind with my correspondence to all.  My apologies for that - and my promise that I will try to catch up as soon as I can [some days it is harder to be Goofy-fun Pax than others]

Leaving you with more emo-driven musical interludes

Sad Pax is Sad

"The Winner Takes It All"

I don't wanna talk
About the things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny

I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules

The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
It's simple and it's plain
Why should I complain.

But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say
Rules must be obeyed

The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all

I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
You've come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all

The winner takes it all...
